WHO I AM
My greatest treasures are Jennifer and our children Hallie (and Liam), Zack (and Megan, Nolan, and Little Cooper!), Brock (and Brooke), and Carlie. I adore my family and continuing to be involved in all of their lives is my favorite activity! In addition to my current position as a professor at Indiana University-Bloomington (IU), where I've been for the last 19 years, I have enjoyed teaching at several universities, including Florida State University (FSU), Bowling Green State University (BGSU), and Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU). Over my career I have appreciated the opportunity to educate and mentor ~5,300 students (see the Former Students page of this website). It has also been a privilege to work with several brilliant PhD graduates as a doctoral chair or as a member of their dissertation committee (see the Doctoral Family Tree page). Beyond my work with doctoral students, I teach mainly sport communication undergraduate and graduate courses here at IU.
I have published several books (e.g., Contemporary Sport Management, Strategic Sport Communication, Encyclopedia of Sport Management, Handbook of Sport Communication, Communication in Sport Management, Research Methods and Design in Sport Management) and over 125 articles in peer-reviewed academic outlets. In addition to being the founding editor of the International Journal of Sport Communication (IJSC), I’m on the editorial board of several international sport journals.
As an extension of my past activities as a sportswriter and sports business columnist, I research, publish, and present on sport communication activities and personnel within the field of sport management.
